Join Us Now!
This
is a very good time to join the Troy Gardens Cohousing. We are still
in the phase of working with the developer to design the site, the
private units, and the common house. We are very interested in bringing
more people into this process to help us develop our vision of the
community.
Here
are the steps you can take to join our group:
- E-mail
our Marketing and Membership Coordinator to find out when our next meeting
is.
- Attend
a couple of meetings to see what you think. Our Marketing and Membership
Coordinator can give you a basic introduction to the project prior to
this meeting, or at another time that you want to arrange.
- After
your second meeting, we ask that you pay a $25 membership fee.
This
is all we have asked of any of our dozen or so members so far. However,
we must all remember that Troy Gardens Cohousing will mostly be
for homeowners-- though there may be a few rental units. To become
homeowners, each of us will have to make a significant financial
investment.
At this
point, we do not have solid figures for what the units will cost.
But it is not too early to begin planning. If you have never been
a homeowner before, here are some steps you can take now:
- Talk to
a banker about your financial situation, your credit history, and how
you might prepare yourself to qualify for a mortgage loan. (We have
a list of bankers who we could suggest to you.)
- Get some
education about the process of buying a house. Many banks and credit
unions provide free classes for first time homebuyers. Or you can contact
the Dane County Housing Authority (608-224-3636, ext. 18), which also
provides excellent classes for free.
