What is Troy Gardens?

Since early 2001, a dozen of us have been meeting to plan Troy Gardens Cohousing. We are fortunate to have the help and support of the Madison Area Community Land Trust (MACLT). MACLT actually owns the land and is the developer of the property. As a non-profit organization committed to affordable housing, MACLT is determined to make Troy Gardens Cohousing a viable option for a anyone who qualifies. For the past year, we have been meeting, planning, gathering for potluck dinners, and taking other steps to develop our future community. Herešs how we describe our common vision for that community:

  • FUN
  • Environmentally friendly and energy-efficient
  • Safe and nonviolent
  • Affordable
  • Designed to facilitate community building
         • Common areas for activities and meals
         • Balance between privacy and community
  • Diverse in terms of age, family status, gender, race, sexual orientation, and physical ability
  • Connected to noature
  • Sharing responsibility for:
         • Chores
         • Governance (in a non-hierarchical way)
         • Ongoing success of the community

In the weeks and months to come, we will update this web site to reflect the progress we make toward that vision. We welcome you to join us any time for a meeting to learn more about Troy Gardens Cohousing.
